No increase in volunteer allowance

The House of Representatives wants to investigate whether volunteers can be compensated more. The cabinet believes that volunteer work is primarily idealistic and that compensation is not the main focus. Currently, there is a tax-free allowance of up to €210 per month and €2,100 per year in 2025. Higher costs can only be reimbursed if they are demonstrable.

The volunteer allowance has increased significantly in recent years due to indexation, from €1,700 to €2,100. The cabinet believes that an additional increase is unnecessary and possibly even harmful. It could displace paid work and make volunteer work financially more attractive than paid work for people receiving benefits.
